I’m new to Webi/Universe and I’m trying to create a report that when the user runs it, they will be prompted to add values to the filters that exist in the report. I’d like it to behave the same way Crystal Reports does when a parameter field is included in the report and the user has to enter values when the report is run.

Currently the Webi report is published in the InfoView. When the user clicks the report to run it, they are not prompted to add a value to the filter that exists within the report. From what I can tell, the only way for them to add or modify the value of the filter is to modify the document and then edit the query. Does anyone know if there is a simpler way for users to change the values of a filter in a Webi report? We are on Business Objects XI R2.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Report filters are not promptable. If you want to do this, then you can build clever prompts that do not affect the query results. Or, have your users change to Interactive mode. There they can see and edit report-based filters very easily without going into Modify.

When you set up the filters, click on the button at the far right of the filter. Set the value to "Prompt". On the report, right-click on an area of the report that's not in a group section and select "Properties" (may be "Report Properties"). Check "Refresh on Open".

This will then prompt your users for the filter values when they open/run the report. The problem with this method, though, occurs when you try to open a previously scheduled instance - it will also prompt the user and then replace the data from the scheduled run with the refreshed data.
