Have you checked on Google as a starting point?
try webcamxp lite ( it's free for one cam and it does the trick as a nanny cam for watching my son (at least while he's in sight)...
Authentication I think is part of the pro version, but still $39 ain't too bad

Sorry, authentication is available on everything above the lite version.. and the upstep from lite is "private" at $39 USD. Still a good deal with 5 cam sources on that version.

If you already use an instant messaging service like Yahoo IM or AOL IM etc. most of them have a webcam interface, you simply have to supply the webcam. Skype also has this functionality.
