IN FEBRUARY, WITH THE RELEASE of WatchGuard Firebox System (WFS)
v6.1 Service Pack 1, WatchGuard announced that we would start using
an improved WebBlocker solution for Web filtering, based on the
latest technology from well-known HTTP content filtering vendor
SurfControl. This new solution replaces the WebBlocker technology we
used before the 6.1 SP1 release, and offers fundamental improvements
including improved accuracy, improved reliability, the ability to
define exceptions based on hostname, and the ability to use
wildcards in the hostname exceptions for all Firebox III appliances.

On May 31, 2003, WatchGuard will stop offering updates to the old
WebBlocker technology, because SurfControl is planning to
discontinue maintenance on the older content filtering solution.
Those Fireboxes that have not yet updated to 6.1 SP1 or greater can
continue to use the old WebBlocker solution; however, database
updates will no longer be available after May 31, 2003. This means
that as new sites join the World Wide Web, after May 31 the older
WebBlocker technology will not know of the new sites and thus, will
not block them.

The new WebBlocker service is available to all Firebox III customers
with an active LiveSecurity subscription. The newer WebBlocker
service makes updates to its Web filtering database available daily
as long as your LiveSecurity subscription remains active, providing
up-to-date HTTP filtering. Ensure that all your units requiring HTTP
filtering have active LiveSecurity Subscriptions to prevent any
interruptions to this feature. If you haven't already done so, take
advantage of your ability to download the latest WFS software, which
includes the new WebBlocker technology, before the older WebBlocker
technology goes out of date.
