I specialise in real estate web design and my clients need to update their site regularly i.e. property listings etc. It is not feasible for them to pay for updates so what is the best way to do it. There is not database involved necasarily, so I dont really need to have a cross referenced search criteria, I just need an easier way for my clients to update without having to buy a website authoring program. Keeping in mind that real estate people are just that, they are not IT experts so it has to be simple.

I recommend you automating their web site content. You can add all the data that they need to change to easy to manage Perl scripts.

Every one of my clients is setup this way and they love it. Find out what data they need to change and set that data up in a way that they can edit it themselves.

That is actually the primary reason our company was created. I used to develop by hand, we eventually created scripts that made site automation easy.

There are other scripts/companies out there that can do the same things ours can do, this is not meant as an advertisement.

Mike...can you give me a little more detail on this automatic update thru perl script?

So the perl references a text file which is easily updated and uploaded...correct? Ya' Gotta Love It!:)X-)

Since you asked :)

Here is the scoop, using server side includes and Perl you can manage entire sites without ever touching HTML. Create the site once, place all the SSI callouts in place and you can totally manage the web site using a web based administrator interface.

Many Perl scripting companies have scripts that can manage web sites. Some are very expensive and some are very inexpensive. When we first got started 3 years ago we developed scripts for our customers so they could manage their own data. After getting the same requests over and over we decided to formalize the scripts. Since the primary development was paid for many times over by our original clients we sell the scripts for next to nothing.

Fortunately, so we don't get spam from the whole world in here, we are not allowed to advertise our web sites directly in our posts.

I have been very active in posts on this board for a few months now and you all know I do not spam, in fact I think this is the first time I mentioned our company specifically. I am only mentioning it now because I was asked.
