I see some sites with no keywords at all. How do they still show up in the search? Is that part hidden? Other than paying for a service, i am only relying on metatags, alt and title tags Is that going to help me at all?

Thanks for your help, but what do you mean by link popularity? Is it the organizations I am linking to?

Hi mate,

The other way round. It is the amount of links that point to your site and also the quality of the links.

If a site has 1 million links pointing to it and you have a link on that site pointing to yours, then your page will rank higher than if that link was on a deserted site that nobody was linking to.

Hope this helps Wullie

Google is the most visible user of the quantity (and value) of sites linking to yours - they call it PageRank (tm).

Its not just the quantity, but the appropriateness of those links. Also important is the link text (the text that appears within the anchor).

So, if you have a site MySite.com that primarily sells widgets, a link from a site that deals with widgets that has a PageRank of 6 to your site using the technique:
[tt]<a href=&quot;www.mysite.com&quot;>widgets</a>[/tt] would be much better than 10 links from PR3 gambling sites with [tt]<a href=&quot; MySite</a>[/tt] --------------
