Web Site Marketing

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find out how to market my web site....register with search engines at the best price possible...target an audience from a specific location?

Can you point me to an informational web site, books, articles, people etc. that covers this topic in full?

I have very little understanding of this.

Hi,
A very tricky question. No straigh answer. It depends largely on what your site sells/provides. I particularly like a book called [Futurized Your Organization] and another called [Buzz Word Marketing].

Basically, advertising is a waste of money except if you're running a HUGE company and wants to build brandname. EMail marketing are good but you risk being reported as a Spammer. I personally prefers Viral Marketing/BuzzWord Marketing. All my sites are promoted using these 2 methods.

Also, I personally believe that search engine ranking is a by-product of a good site/marketing, not a pre-cursor to one. As such, focus on getting your site out to the public, being linked by others and getting lots of hits and your search engine ranking will increase automatically.

Forget about the Submit your site to x thousands of search engines for $xx. It is both a waste of money and can spoil your chance of getting a good ranking (my opinion). All you need are Yahoo, Altavista, Google, Lycos, DMOZ, AOL and HotBot. Manual submission for these are preferred, anyway, it is just a few so you can manage. Also, it will take a few weeks for your site to be [listed] and months for it to get ranked high. So be patience (if you focus too much time here, you waste your time waiting).
