Hello folks,

I have a home network of 3 computers and I would like to create a Web Share on my Windows .NET domain to a location on my domain controller hard drive. The web sharing portion was not difficult and I know I have the DNS configured properly.

I created the Web Share by right clicking on the folder that I wanted to share and then clicked on the Web Sharing tab. I'm sharing it on the Default Web Site that was created when IIS was installed then I clicked on Share this Folder. I double checked Windows 2000 Server and it appears to be the same between the two. I added an Alias called Shared and set the appropriate permissions that I wanted.

Now - Here's the weird part. On one of my machines - I can just open up a browser and see the web share no problem. It prompts me for authentication since I'm not logged in with my domain user account and all is well.

If I try to create a network place for the web share in My Network Places and by specifying - I get an error message that states: "The folder you entered does not appear to be valid. Please choose another one." I tried to do this using an IP address instead of the host name and it doesn't work. Why would I be able to view the web share in the browser, but not create a network place?

P.S. I know very little about IIS...

I'm confused.
