Web service will not start

I am running MS Proxy 2.0, on an NT4 machine. When I restarted the server, the Web Proxy will not start. When I try to start it, I get the following in the event log:

The server was unable to logon the Windows NT account '' due to the following error: The parameter is incorrect. The data is the error code.

The data is:

0000: 57 00 00 00 W...

When I look at the

http://WWW proxy

service, it does not have a user name in the Anonymous User. If I put one there, and click OK or Apply, it does not keep the name there.

I am pesuming that is also the problem with the Web Proxy service, but you can't change the properties unless the service is started, and (if this is the problem), I can't start the service without changing the properties.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hi Jim,

The account that it is trying to logon to should be called IUSR_machinename. Look in User Manager and see if you have that account on your proxy server. If not, create it and set a password for it. Then in

http://WWW properties,

select that one as the anonymous user account and allow automatic synchronization of the password. That should fix it.
