web reporting character conversion

so i am having an issue with web reporting today. we our customer is attempting to pull a report on vista installs but when they pull the value out of 'values' it comes in with a 'trademark' symbol (the small tm or the r w/ the circle around it) & when you run the report it converts that to ® and ™

this search can be completed manually using wildcards but i was wondering if anyone knew a work around for this
