I haven't actually been able to use either of these yet so I can't comment personally on their features/use etc but they do seem to be roughly what I was after. And copyleft.
I'm an experienced web page designer/programmer. I found that Dreamweaver was good only for people that come from a Photoshop background and aren't capable of understanding what <b>this text is bolded</b> does.
There is no lack of text-based editors in Linux and I recommend using one to create your sites. One of the reasons why Linux is good is that it allows you to see why things work. Dreamweaver numbs the brain. Gary
I am just staring with Linux and I am having a hard time even to get it running.
But I do agree with xutopia. I started with Dreamweaver. Now most of the time I use the text-based editor, Editplus (windows). I find it much more productive.
Does something like this exist for Linux (in case I pass the Linux newbie status succesfully and get into the phase where I can actually do something useful with it )
There's probably a whole heap more than what I know (as xutopia alluded to), but I'm sure that 'emacs' which should come standard with just about any linux distribtion you can think of, can do all that you need.
I am still having problems configuring linux to work with x windows etc. but while searching for answers on the Internet I did read about emacs and will certainly look at it.
The nice thing of Editplus is that the tool menu is adjusted to the file you are working on (supporting among others, html, perl, php files). And it makes it very easy to make basic actions (creating tags) like making part of text bold or inserting images.
