I am currently running an NT Server that hosts our web page. We have a LAN that this server validates all users. When I try to connect to the web page at home through my ISP I have been getting prompted for a user name and password and at times I can't even get connected to the web page. When I try and ping our address all results are timed out. I checked the permissions for the c:\InetPub\ directory but see nothing that should be included. What may be the problem and what other types of tests may I try to fix this situation.

i believe you have a valid block of ip addresses acquired from internic and that your workplace have 24x7 net connection. that you are timed out during ping operation suggests problem with the registration of your hosting server on the net. you might get usrid/pwd prompts if the name of your hosting server matches that of another one which however happens only if you are using fictitious ip addresses. other than this you may have checked only nt challenge authentication and not anonymous logon also in the IIS propt.

IUSR_hostname is the account used for logins via the external network and well.. the not completely authenticated intra network users to see FTP Gopher services in you server.

Does you IESR_hostname.. user have access to the web sites directory? Go to property security permissions and see.

While you are in internet via a third party.. you are not authenticated to you work site. That should be it.

BUT, if you allow IUSR_hostname to read the directory, expect everyone over the internet to do as well..

Do you whant that? L8ter!
