Web not taking password when trying to publish

Greetings everyone,

I'm fairly new at this thus am not aware of what to do after I get the following two messages: The server could not complete your request. Contact your Internet service provider or Web server admin to make sure that the server has the FP server extensions or sharepoint services installed.

I click ok then try to publish again and i get another message: You do not have permission to do this operation. Ask your web admin to change your permissions then try again.

Problem with this is that everything is already set correctly and it has worked in the past.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? the web is an intranet web thus the server is located internally. We are using server 2000.

I would suggest that you run the detect and repair on the server extensions and if that doesn't work, try reinstalling the FP server extensions on this server.
