Just trying to get a general idea of whether or not other Web site designers use applets to do things like text scrolling or image rotation. Is this the easiest way to implement text effects or does anyone have any other ideas for a non-Flash site? Thanks.

Depends on your target audience...Looking to impress your buddies with the amazing effects, or looking to do a site accessable and usable by the largest possible audience.

If the later, we don't belive in using anything An applet that downloads and runs fine on a cable connected 1.2gig machine with 500+meg of ram, might not be so sporty on a 300mhz box on a 56k analog connection. Depending on how well the applet was written, it may or may not run on the client machine as configured. If you absolute must have some special effects, (fold out navigation menus are useful) a light weight java script rather than an applet will work.

It has been our experience that a clean, easily navigatable (you can reach any information you want in 3 clicks or less), fastloading page is far more effective than a page loaded with whirling images and blinking text.

Only our humble opinion
