hi,

there are a lot of web site analysis software out there in the net. i would like to be able to create my own. however, where do those analysis softwares get their data?

do they get it "plainly" from the logs generated? or do they have any other sources of information for this statistics?

i would like to implement it on apache and tomcat...

They usually do it from log files. A lot of tools work for Apache - for Tomcat, you'll need to change the format of your log files to look like Apache ones (in server.xml). There was a thread a month or two ago asking how to do this to which I replied.
