Web Access to Sharepoint Services

I have a Win2003 server running sharepoint services I have opened the server to the web via firewall, when browsing to the url i get the log on screen then once correct credentials are supplied i get page cannot be displayed.

IIS appears to be set up correctly.

Have you setup alternate access mapping in sharepoint central administration?
