We have an HP LJ 4+ with the HP Code 3 of 9 barcode SIMM installed (we have also installed the SIMM in a LJ 5 with the same results). A file that is created by our Windows NT based ERP software has an ESC sequence in the document. The sequence is <esc>(9Y<esc>(s1p13v0s0b28679T*123456*<esc>(3@ (<esc> actually appears as a box when the file is viewed in Notepad). When the file is selected and printed from within the ERP software and sent to the printer using the Windows driver on the client it prints fine (we see a barcode) if the client is running Windows 98SE. If the client is running Windows 2000 or XP, we get a printout with the ESC sequence printing where the barcode should be. If the file is sent to the printer using a DOS copy command to lpt1, it prints fine. If I create a Word document and format a text string (i.e. *12345*) with one of the 3 of 9 fonts from the PCM file that came with the SIMM, it's barcode prints fine. What are the newer operating systems doing to the document before its printed that the 98SE driver doesn't? What can I do to correct the behavior? We have tried each operating system's default drivers as well as the latest PCL drivers for those printers from the HP site. When I print a PCL font list from the printer, I see the SIMM and it's fonts listed.
