We are evaluating cognos impromptu product. The client wants to deploy report in the client-server environment. All the security information (user class) is stored at the catalog level.

We want to build a user-interface, which will allow user to login. Then it will show the user list of available reports.

My question is - how do I use catalog level security to identify which reports are accessible to a user?

If their is a "organization" or "department" hierarchy element in the basic fact tables, you can filter on this to allow users to only see data that is in their organization (either equi-joined or via a 'like' clause). The filter is setup under 'Filter' in Maintain User Profiles.

Dave Griffin
