Just purchased new wd caviar (wd800jbrtl) hard drive, installed it and now have problems. Ive received a fatal crash error Bad_Pool_Caller with Stop: 0xc2 as parameter 1. Ive tried to run dumpchk.exe, but for some reason i cant get it to work... My other problem is the fact that my device manager displays the transfer speed as not applicable for this drive. Intel application accelerator and Data lifeguard tools both display it running in udma mode 5 but not device manager...I have other issues with the drive but i believe it all relates to the same problem. Pls help me out, the wd tech support isnt doin it. ill supply whatever other info u need

Windows xp service pack one
wd caviar as primary slave, jumper set to slave
640 ram, 1.6 gig proc
whatever else u need ill give..thanx

yes i know, but dumpchk.exe, the debugging program that they say to use i cannot get to work, it says access denied when i try to open the file. I have admnistrative rights so i dont no y...now if u can help me on that...then u got sumthin...:)

Hmmm...I'd test the memmory next!

When you say you have administrator rights I take it that you mean your user account has admin privleges and not the actual admin account!? I'm not 100% sure but I've heard that accounts with admin privleges aren't the same as the admin account. Others here, more qualified, can verify this as true or not!

Personally, I've always user the admin account for setup, maintenance and installation and my personal, limited user, account for day-to-day stuff. Try logging on as the administrator and see if this solves your problem! Otherwise your problem may just be a bad hard-drive or another hardware malfunction!

Cheers

U know...i think u may be right, ill have to try that out even though its been so long im not sure if i remember the password or how to log in as admin since i have auto log ...but i can change that one. I think that my problem may be that my power supply cant handle all the hardware now...its a pretty generic 250 watt supply. i got two hardrives, 2 cd roms, floppy, soundblaster live, ethernet and a radeon 9600 xt (quick description) but im not sure..thx for your input tho

Definately, get a better PS...hope that does the trick!

As for logging on just log out and "Ctrl, Alt, Del" twice. This will bring up the login window...hope you remember your password! If not you can download free linux bootdisks that'll allow you to change the password...without knowing the old one!

Cheers

I cant get a new power supply right now becuz i gotta dell pc. the mobo is incompatible with any other cuz its old and dell does that crap...i gotta get a new mobo (got it), power supply, and i even think processor...oh yeah, and another windows xp becuz its configured to only boot from this mobo...GO DELL!!!

Not to kick you when you're down but even if your ram proves to be OK, you still may have to replace it! When you finally do upgrade your old ram may not be compatable with the new MB! Not just a Dell thingy...just a fact of upgradeitis! Out with the old and buy everything new...again!

Cheers

ya, i already know that my ram is compatible tho, im not a noob to computers all the way..i mean i know a decent amount of stuff, its just that some simple things i over look. i dont know alot of things i should, and probably some things i shouldnt. And i forgot, my new mobo has a power supply with it..duh

Ok, if my administrative account isnt my normal account with administrative privelidges...then it would show up in system properties user profiles right? The only account there is the one i use all the time..wow, i cant believe im asking this

HAHAHAHA, i finally got dumpchk to work...and it was extremley simple. Umm, now what.

Ok, im goin to run a memory check on my system, apparently the 0xc2 error is due to RAM and not hard drives...at least from that link u gave me braddds, it turns out you've been extremely helpful after all :) thx. So now...since ive installed my new hard drive, ive had 2 fatal errors due to that bad_pool_caller and ive had it crash with something related to my graphics card (it listed my driver for it) plus ive had numerous games crash too....all since i installed the hard drive. All the utilities say my hard drive is fine. it seems fine except the device manager thing, so im convinced that my generic 250 watt power supply just cant hang anymore. #$&%!!, but thats ok...its just gonna make me build my pc much much better faster...i think im goin to start a new thread based soley off of the device manager transfer speed being not applicable becuz that is really disturbing me...thx braddds, i believe ive found my problem. if its not the hard drive, then one of my ram sticks is failing so either way, ill know once i run the test.
