WD 500GB External USB drive - funny things on Win2k3

hey everyone

strange incident going on

we backed up a server running AD and the like using a external backup drive through the network

when we try to reconnect the WD external drive via usb back to the reformatted server it shows up as a "raw" drive under disk management

this could be due to the fact that the WD external was originally on XP when we offloaded all the server files, still you would think it works under XP that it would work under win2k3 when the drive is inserted (course M$ is world famous for screwing with us on simple "should work" stuff right?)

any ideas that DONT REQUIRE FORMATTING this drive (which is NOT AN OPTION) would be great!

When you right click on it in Disk Management, do you get an "import" option?

no i dont

all it shows is the drive size as healthy and it also reports it as 100% disk free which we kNOW is incorrect

when i click properties it shows RAW as the disk type

anymore thoughts?
