I'm running WinXP Pro and have a 1G PIII on a 1G motherboard. My HD is a WD10.2G EIDE. I get error messages periodically from XP stating that it found a controller error. Is it a software/driver problem or is my HD going bad?

Could be drive, mainboard, or both. Considering the failure rate we had with WD 10 and 20 gig drives, I suspect the drive first. I'd look to ghost it to a newer one while you can, at the very least, backup data.
