Way to capture data from telenet screen to XML?

I need to grab some data from a telnet screen and then feed it to a windows application.
We had a software guy in talking about automating our shipping process where his program literally grabbed the data from the telnet screen and feed it to the UPS website. What do you guess he was using to initially grab that telnet screen data? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

There is a program prtscrn which could be piped, if you are running this locally.

I do not think that this is distributed with the OS, Can send you a copy, or you should be able to find it at
