We'll never really know, what his intentions were I guess. I am displeased that the New York Post would not have at least contacted the accused for comment before publishing the story... I've been displeased with a number of that publication's past actions. In all fairness, the above linked article does not explicitly seem to say that the New York Post didn't contact him, but if they had (or even if they tried to contact him) I believe it would have been mentioned.

Anyone who is smart enough to use eBay to sell something is also smart enough to anticipate the possible repercussions of doing what this guy did. It is my belief that if he truly was planning to donate the proceeds to Tsunami Relief, then he would have avoided possible repercussions by disclosing in the auction information something like, "All proceeds from this auction go directly to the American Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund."

Without such a disclosure, I am seriously suspicious about any after-the-fact claims to the contrary.

They were "The First-Responder" to the disaster, with relief deliveries arriving before Red Cross and U.S. aid.

So, he's either a crook, or an idiot.

In either case, he won't live this one down for a while, because once the newswires have picked it up, it goes global.

It may even poison some of our international relations. All it would take is someone like xinhuanet.com (China's state news organ) publishing it with a negative slant.
