wav file question

I use adobe premier 1.5 and I am having trouble withy dvd playback on surround sound systems. I went ahead and converted the wav file to surround sound 5.1 mono and it exported into one wav file. When i go to import it into premier, i get an error message. Any ideas? How can I get the files to import back in?
