Watchguard X Edge and modem issue

Hi guys,

Just setting up a new office last night and got a bit stuck...

With BT Broadband and have a static IP, I have set this up on the Netgear router/modem and changed it to modem only mode and can get internet.

However when I add a unconfigured Watchguard X10 Edge between my laptop and the modem, it just picks up an IP address (192.168.0.1) from the internal Netgear not the ISP static address.

So my question is this the right behaviour and that should I configure the Firebox for HTTP? Or am I missing something and should put the ISP addresses in the Firebox and the modem will pass them through?

Sorry a bit of a newbie question as I haven't setup a Watchguard from scratch before only integrated modem/firewalls.

Is this cable or DSL?? Is the netgear providing DHCP services??

Can you put the modem into transparent bridging mode and then let your Edge get a public IP when it plugs in? Did the ISP tell you what your static IP would be? If so, once you are in transparent bridging mode on the modem, you can manually configure the IP on your Edge, unless they use PPPOE/PPPOA and then you'd have to configure login creds on the Edge.

Hi,

Browse into the Netgear:

http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?next_file=mode.htm

and setup bridging mode. Alternatively, get a Draytek 100 modem (this will bridge PPPoA to PPPoE), plug it in - no configuration required - and setup the Edge external interface to use PPPoE with your static IP.
