How do you change the text color after it has been warped? Should be easy, but I can't seem to do it.

Before using the warp tool ILL requires yout to turn the type into outlines - graphical object. The text tool will no longer work.

You can use Select tool to select the container with the warped text. You should see the bounding box and all the text selected individually - little dots around each letter. If you then apply a new fill color, the warped test should change color.

Hi,

You don't have to create outlines from your text. after warping a text just select your letters with the text tool and then go to the color palet or the swatches palet and choose a different color

Carlow, that would be the obvious solution. Try it...it doesn't work. The color is fixed on grey, even though the text color is not grey!

Jmgalvin, I couldn't get your solution to work either. Anyone else?

BTW, I ussing CS.

hi,

I see, well I think that you only see a gray ramp in your color palette. If so go to the little triangle at the top right hand side of the color palette and choose a different color mode. RGB is for screen purpose, CMYK is for printing

hope this solves it

Thanks Carlow for the suggestions. I tried changing the color mode to no avail.

This really is the strangest problem. If anyone's got a minute, give it a try yourself. Type a word, select "object", "envelope distort" and "make with warp". Choose any warp. As soon as you hit ok, and the warp takes effect, you can no longer use the color pallete. It seems to be a bug. If anyone has solved this problem, please let me know.

Ok Katzman,

I do my text warping in a different way.

If you do it your way, you don't actually warp the text you make an envelope with it. If you want to change the color of your text you have to do the following:
with the object selected go to Object> EXPAND.

Now you can change the color of your text.

I I warp text I don't make an envelope with it.

I type a word
select it with the black arrow`
Go to the menu Effect> Warp
Do my warping.

This gives me the advantage that my text still is text, I can change the word, font, color whatever...

hope I helped you
