Hi guys

1) Is it possible to warp text/type in flash as you can in photoshop, if so, how? 2) Can one apply various effects to text such as dropshadow, gradients etc in flash?

I mostly need the answer to question 1!

Thanks in advance and peace!

Text wraps in Flash. (If you're creating TextField at runtime with script, you need to set "wordWrap" and "multiline" to true.)

You can apply filters to Text. Just go to "Filters" panel. (Or do it through script.)

Hi kennethkawamoto

Thanks for the post, but I don't think you understand my question here. I am not asking whether/how text can *wrap* in flash but whether one can create *warped* text for example, place text on a circular path or create text that's in the shape of a flag or something?

Send some feedback if you know!

Peace

Ha ha - sorry about that! Warp, not wrap.

I don't think Flash has the built-in tool like Photoshop. You can always do it in Illustartor (or Photoshop) and import it, but if you really need to do it solely in Flash you can apply transformation Matrix to a MovieClip. This requires a lot of Maths! Have a look at, for example, Sandy:
If you want to just curve the text along a path, there's a commercial product I don't know how good this is.

Thanks, a quick response I might add.

I must admit, I don't know much at all about Illustrator exept tracing a bitmap and exporting it to flash. I did try to create the text on path in Photoshop and export it as an EPS, that didn't work so I ended up exporting it as a transparent gif just to create a mockup. It would be great to transport a vector of text on path into flash rather than warping my brain with action script at this stage.

Any Advice?

Peace

Instead of warping your brain I would suggest warping your text in Illustrator so that you can import it as vector.

In Illustrator CS2:
1. Type in your text
2. Type > Create Outlines
3. Effect > Warp > Whatever - Fish, may be?
4. Object > Expand Appearance

Then just copy and paste into Flash.
