Using Excel 2007, I receive files in various formats (.xls, .xlxs, .xlxm, .xlm). When opening the files, I often get the following message...
Code:
The file you are trying to open, 'Filename.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension.
Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?
These files are all on the company server. Is there any way to turn this warning off?

Randy

You didn't specify your OS.

This can be done through Registry key.

[red]Warning: If you do not know how to use Registry Key, please do not attempt this[/red]

Open your Registry (Start -> Run -> regedit.exe)

Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\OFFICE\12.0\EXCEL\SECURITY

Right click in the right window and choose New -> DWORD

Type “ExtensionHardening” as the name (without the quotes)

Verify that the data has the value “0?

Sorry, it's...

Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

The path you suggest doesn't exist.
The closest I've found is...

HKEY_USERS\.Default\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\

The only folder in 12.0 is Common. Not sure where to go from there.

Randy

In that case, your installation is not proper, because under 12.0 there should be a lot more than just Common.

If you know what you are doing then you can add the Excel folder, but unless you are an expert Registry user, I would advice against it. Unfotunately, I believe that's the only way. Unless someone else knows another way.

BTW, I have lost my access to Tek-Tips; so, my chances of being here on a regular basis are slim.
There go my dreams of passing Skip in vote counts someday [rofl]
