I am start working with VMWARE.

I´ve installed a VMWARE ESX and created a Windows 2003 guest operation system

And like all the newbies I have some newbies questions.

Maybe someone could help me.

1) I am recieving a warning msg on esx console ( home page ) ... Please create a swap drive !!! but I´ve created one when I install the system
I need to create another swapp drive ? ( like one for the esx and one for the virtual machines ?

2) I think I am having a DNS problem...because I am not able to access the ESX Console ( home page ) using the name http:\\testlab only by IP, anyone has any idea how to solve it ?

FYI : When I installed the ESX I configured the ESX server as the DNS Server. but I haven´t done anything else.

If someone could help a newbie on his new jorney.

Thanks
Nelson Gomes

1) yes, you need to create another swap. this is a file. Why? because the swap partition that you created at install time is the swap for service console. The next swap you need is for ESX Server and virtual machines.

follow the link:
2) yes, that's a DNS problem on your network (NOT ESX). you should add the ESX Server to your DNS -or- just add it to the "hosts" file in your PC.

Cheers.

Chacal hit it right on.

For the DNS issue, you can configure the ESX server to be a DNS server but you will need to configure the server service. I would just add the IP address to your local machines hosts file as chacal suggests.

I am not a linux guy.

Do you have any instructions ... How to set DNS on Linux ?

I´ve successfull configure the swap disk ( really easy )

Anyone of you have configured a windows cluster on vmware? ( creating a virtual san etc. etc. ?

Thanks
