Warm reboot fails, Cold reboot works

I have a w2k laptop. Recently I have noticed that warm reboots always hang (with the blue dashes about 2/3s of the way done). But cold reboots (system powered off then reboot) work fine. Any ideas on how to identify what's going on and how to fix it?

have you checked the event log it may have some error that will lead you in the right direction.
