Hello!

In my Mandrake 8.1 box I have X configured to start on boot.

Well, from a terminal, I killall X but it restart...

Which is the way to run the kill command in order to stop X without having it reloading everytime I kiil it?
I want to run the console XConfigurator program.

Thanks a lot! Arlequín

Go into /etc/inittab, and look for a line similar to this:

id:5:initdefault:

Change it to this (ie replace the 5 with a 3)

id:3:initdefault:

Then, switch to run level 3:

/sbin/init 3

Hope this helps you... Bruce Garlock

Thanks, bgarlock

Now I cant type xinit and then start the window manager I like most.

I was searching for the XFreeSetup or XFreeConfigurator program in my Mandrake 8.1 box, but I couldn't find it...

What was the name of that tool ?

The one that writes XFreeConfig ....

If you don't have "Xconfigurator", you can try "xf86config" which is a text based step through configuration tool for your mouse, keyboard, video card and monitor. Both of them right to a file called XF86Config which can be edited with a text editor. For some distros, this file is in /etc/X11.
