I would LOVE to replace my desktop Win 2k with Linux and make it into a sever. Since I now own a laptop, and mostly use that and my desktop needs a reinstall. However, I have a few questions.
1) Can I play DVDs?
2) Can I play my DVDs on a TV? I have a Matrox G400 dual head and currently have it set up that way with Windows.
3) Print server. Is it easy to set up? My laptop has Win 2k and I must be able to print to my USB HP 952C from it. I know I can print through linux, I want to know difficulty of setting it up.
4) Samba networking with Win 2k, does it work? Is there a better solution?
5) I know my scanner won't work under linux. (UMAX 610P) is there other alternatives to get this to work?
6) USB video conferencing camera, will this work under linux? Is there software that is compatible with Windows that will work with it?
7) Does the new UPSs that hook up via USB work under Linux? How does that get set up?
I think that is all. Applications, I am not really worried about. I have played with linux some before. I am looking forword to having a reliable sever that I don't have to reboot everyweek because of a lockup (stability is down due to too many apps installed). Mike Wills
