want to open an excel file within a *.prg 1

what kind of command should i use, if i plan to open an excel-file from a *.prg so that excel pops up?

The easiest way is the ShellExecute() the Excel file.

i agree, but what if somebody installed excel in a different path?
therefore i'd prefer a more generic method.

Alex,

The ShellExecute() approach is completely generic. You don't need to knwo the path to Excel. You only need to pass the path and filename of the XLS file.
