Want to install SMC NIC into Intuity Audix PC on Legend system

We have an AT&T PC running Intuity Audix when it boots it complains that it does not have an SMC network card installed. I'd like to be able to access this PC on our LAN.

Does anyone know what type of NIC to install and how to give it an IP address?

With the NIC installed will I be able to configure Audix & the Legend Switch just like I'm sitting in front of the AT&T PC?

I the "option" is not purchased (turned on) the networking won't work. If the SMC card has been removed, you may be ok. As far as which type of card to install, it will probably have to be one that AT&T > Lucent > Avaya has as the part number.

Sounds like you have an old Intuity? What version is the software? ComCode # on back of the PC case?

Att/Lucent/Avaya have specific NIC cards that the software supports and only loads/suports that NIC card with the matching driver for each Intuity PC. It can be very frustrating trying to get NIC cards to work ... so don't waste your time. Just track down the specific NIC card that ATT supports with the version of Intuity and the PC model - check the CC (comcode) number and give that to Avaya Tech Support or someone familar with the system. You may end up buying an old ISA SMC NIC card from a Lucent/Avaya dealer who has one laying around in an old Intuity. Sounds like an older 386 based PC. Andrew Roach

I shoved a SMC NIC that wasn't the exact proper card (I don't think) and the Unixware kernel reconfigged itself and now sees the card.

The issue is I don't know how to turn on networking. I think Lucent stripped the permissions on the /etc/init.d scripts so it doesn't start networking upon boot -- but I'm not 100% sure. I know an ifconfig -a shows nothing, but the network card utilities I found on the disk as part of Lucent's package worked as far as seeing the NIC.

I'm going to mess with it more, I've been poking around a bit to see how to turn on features.

It turns out I'm missing the IMAPI R2 package, so I can't turn on the ability to use the little Windows toy to play back messages.

If anyone has an IMAPI R2.0 tape / disk they want to sell cheap...

Also I could use the restore floppies in case the unit crashes and I have to restore from a tape.

I also notice that the thing ships with Vertias Volume Manager by default. Would anyone enjoy a how-to as far as hooking up a 2nd disk and doing software mirroring?
