want to develop a small utility of Rational Rose kind?

The problem is “I wan to develop a utility of Rational Rose kind. Not fully like rational Rose, I just want to draw two rectangles (classes) and a line between them (Relation). And then I want to generate an XML code by that utility”.

I am new in programming I only know MS Visual C++. I want to develop this utility for learning. If somebody can give me tips how it can be done or on the web where from I can found guidance or sample examples of this kind?

Just a hint,
1. to work with XML use parsers. For example MSXML. Would be great you to download and to install the latest MSXML4.0 SP2 from microsoft.com.
2.
Any RationalRose/EnterpriseArchitect/Visio/VisuatStudioAnalyzer
are relational databases, so you need to know how to use databases.
3. All other things is pure WinAPI, so you can use there one of MFC/ATL/pure Win32API.
