What version of AIX are you using? Try smit users and go to change users password in the menu. Make sure you're root! d3funct

The software required `Windows 95 or better', so I installed Linux.

I run AIX 4.3. But even if U change the password via smitty it doesn't take effect.

Wheen I type in passwd then when I type in old password then gives me a error

Indu,

I am assuming you need to change the passsword of a user that is *NOT* root.

For example:

You have a user called 'mike' who has forgotten his password, here's how you set a new password.

1 - Login as root.

2 - Enter the command [tt]passwd mike[/tt]
The passwd program will then ask you for
the new password twice.
3 - Login as mike
You will be told that the password has been changed
by root -- you will have to enter a new password, twice.

Hope this sorts you out, please post again if you're still having trouble. Mike

Email welcome if you're in a hurry or something -- but post in tek-tips as well please, and I will post my reply here as well.
