want to change start up environment

during installation i selected to have linux start in gnome. I now want to change my start up environment to be at the command prompt. what command would i use to change my start up environment?

Edit [tt]/etc/inittab[/tt]. Find the line that looks like
[tt]id:5:initdefault:[/tt]
and change the 5 to a 3, making the line look like
[tt]id:3:initdefault:[/tt]
