Want to build a irc client 1

I'm new to python but I'm learning more and more everyday. I have been looking up and down throughout the web but not much luck with my latest project. I am trying to build a irc client. Does any have experience with building such client or are irc users which use python for scripting purposes with there irc client?

This guy wrote both an irc client and irc server in Python. The code is open source. Maybe it might help.
