Want to break text threads

I have inherited a lot of InDesign documents where masses of text flows across dozens of text boxes.

I want to break the links between text boxes so I can shift the text boxes around without having threads criss-crossing everywhere.

This would seem a fairly useful feature, but Adobe seem not to have included a way to do this.

I can work around by copying and pasting boxes 'down the thread' and deleting text, but its loads of work.

Any ideas/scripts would be appreciated.

You can, but, because there is no longer a box for the type to go into, you will get an "overflow" red cross.
If you make the box with the text in it bigger then you will see that the type is still there.

What you asking for would be handy sometimes.

Also Quark can't do this either.

Thanks; I know I can delete the box, but what I want to do is keep the text as it appears in each box. IE Just break the threads but keep the text in place

I found one work around. If you drag a page (or multiple pages) across to another (or new) document it copies over the text boxes, along with the text that is in each, keeping the threads between the boxes, but losing any overflow text that would have run into subsequent pages.

So, by dragging pages over to a new doc one by one (or in mulitples) I can reconstruct the original document but with the thread across pages broken.

Couldn't you cut the text from the box and immediately paste it back (into the same box)? I'm not sure if this would break the thread though.
