Hi,

I'll have to move the whole system to another machine, strictly the same one. I heard about Ignite, and it's also installed on the server. I thought it will be easy with it, but I can't find my way out to make a boot-tape (&backup) with it from the server, if somebud knows about... great thanks in advance...

When you run Ignite it creates the boot LIF on the tape for you. What version of Ignite do you have installed?

By default, Ignite copies all your system files (vg00). You can also add your other Volume Groups by telling Ignite to "Include" them. Here is the command string:
"/opt/ignite/bin/make_tape_recovery -AvIt "name of host" -x inc_entire=vg01 -x inc_entire=vgxx"

Just keep adding the Volume Groups you want to backup.

Note: If "make_tape_recovery"(Lastest ver) won't work use
"make_recovery".

Hope this helps

THANX ALOT... it was "make_recovery", and ignite is an older version, but i won't upgrade it now... You should work at HP support... cause they always only come back with: use ignite, use ignite... but as I don't know about..... :)

Thnx, you were very helpfull, now I'll try it and learn abit more 'bout 'make_recovery'

Have a nice day

Okk, just launched "make_recovery -A", forgot the -v option to see whats going on, but, anyway.. looks ok now.

One more question: As there are programs installed (all on the same vg, so it will be included on the rec tape), will the recovery tape get ALL infos stored? Like ux-kernel parameters, and so on... wil it keep 100% the same data & setups??? After a recovery happened on an EMPTY same system, will I need to configure anything else??? Or just booting on the tape, and that's all? (wil the vg recreated and so on????)

Thnx

Sorry for being late, but the answer is:

ALL SYSTEM SETTINGS WILL BE CAPTURED!

No need to change settings except for any hardware differences.

Regards.
