This has only started happening since I installed W10 yesterday. The laptop was working fine with W7 but the disk had seen better days and was starting to play up so I swapped disks and installed W10.

Problem
Sometimes, when I click on a spot to type, it leaves a flashing cursor in the box but the mouse pointer just wanders off to the right by itself. I don't know if this is to do with the pad of my left hand sitting on the touch pad or whether it is a feature. I can't reproduce the feature on demand but it keeps on happening at the most annoying times when you really want the mouse pointer to stay where you left it.

It is like leaving your toddler at the bottom of the staircase and when you come back, he's at the top of the staircase.

Lately, it has also been wandering up with a very annoying side effect - it is moving the folder the cursor is on to the folder above. I'm just wondering - is it something to do with the sensitivity of the touchpad?

I'm just going to change the pointer speed to see what happens.

Finally figured it out - it is the touchpad gestures. If the pad of my left hand is on the touchpad and my right finger moves on the touchpad, it takes it as 2 fingers being on the touchpad and causes a scrolling motion. The annoying one is that the pad of my left hand is also doing an select. No idea how to get around that except by using a mouse. Probably have to invest in a clip on rollerball mouse.

I always turn OFF all that extra crap on laptop touch pads. You'll get crazy things happening if you just touch in two places instead of with just the tip of your single finger - zooming, pinching, screen resolution changes.
