I have 3.6 software and am having a weird problem with IE access to a lot of web sites? My network engineer can place a Cisco router on the WAN connection (PTP T-1) and get out to the internet with no problems, but when we put the BCM back on there are a lot od web sites that we are getting blocked on? Any suggestions would help greatly! We are using OSPF PTP and the default gateway and subnet mask are correct.

It's a MTU issue on the WAN card. Change the MTU from 1500 (default) to 1600. It'll take a reboot to take effect. You're most likely getting blocked on high graphics sites but not low graphics sites. The BCM router doesn't fragment packets well, if at all.

Thanks, I changed it but now my router is down I can't access it remotely anymore I'm sending someone out there. Coincidentally I recieved a call from a Nortel SE and I told him about this change, he said he would recommend changing it to maybe 1524 and trying that. I'll let you know what happens

It's amazing how poorly this equipment is designed! Now I was able to get someone out there and change the setting to 1524, that didn't work. And after I rebooted the BCM the MTU setting defaulted back to 1500 but now I still can't access the LAN? I can ping the WAN but I can't ping the LAN? I'm wondering now if the OSPF settings need to be reset?

I've never done OSPF on a BCM, but have noticed that sometimes RIP info will change on a whim.

I've since adopted this theory - let my phone systems be phone systems, and let my routers be routers. The "router" in the BCM is kind of a joke - it's all based on Windows NT, which makes a pretty crappy router. For a few bucks more than what the WAN card costs you can buy a Cisco or Nortel router that will work much better, not to mention keep your WAN up if you ever need to do maintenance on the BCM.

I agree, management is trying to save a few bucks by implementing these two location I have with the BCM routers instead of purchasing Cisco 1841'S THAT WE ARE PUTTING IN MANY OTHER SITES? I have opened a ticket with my vendor, they in turn opened a ticket with Nortel and have already escalated to level 2.

You know what's weird, is that I made that change to 1600 remotely but when I did they lost connectivity completely to the Internet. And I couldnt access them remotely anymore, but another site that we were having the problem at my vendor made this same change working with Nortel and it worked?! Same software levels, go figure!
