wall cabling problem

A residential problem I have been asked to solve. A friend has a wall with existing voice and coaxial cables coming down a stud bay for his TV and Phone---however this section of the wall has a fireplace built in under which is open and usable for both the living room and den where the TV is. Now what the original owner did was run the cable down this stud bay and at about 5 feet from the floor he did a 90 degree turn and then drilled a hole into an "in Wall" shelving and TV system that was custom built.

The problem is my friend wants to get a HDMI tv and hang it above the fire place and use the cables from his existing sound system and DVR----He did not understand that he would have to cut the drywall. So now that he does, my question is, has anyone who maybe had a similar situation, used a panel door--small enough to be covered by the TV but big enough to be able to manipulate the existing wiring and relocate it plus the audio/video cables for his entertainment system to a faceplate?

Thanks in advance

I use those spring loaded access panels they sell in the plumbing section all the time. Available in sizes 6"x6" up to 24"x24".

Some rectangular snap in frame types can sometimes be found. Usually use RTV silicone to glue the frame to the drywall.

Good luck!
