Waking Powerbook from sleep

Shutting the lid of a Powerbook laptop puts it to sleep, and it normally wakes when you open the lid. Sometimes mine continues to hibernate, until I have to do a forced restart, losing anything unsaved. Tried the space bar, power button alone, Escape etc; nothing works. It's a 17" Powerbook running OS 10.3.7 (1 Gb RAM). Any solutions?

did you try to re-set your settings, sometimes thats what it needs
