Waiting 1 Minute before Email is sent

Hi,
I have no clue what's going on. When I send a mail from my local mail client it always takes approximately 1 minute until the mail delivery is starting. This is no mail client issue (I tested it with other mail clients, too).

My server is a suse linux server with plesk and qmail. I looked at the qmail queue just before I sent the mail and it was empty. Does anybody have an idea what's the problem?

I am admittedly not an expert in qmail, but I would look at what spawns the delivery process into action. Is it a daemon process and is it perhaps called per a crontab entry?
