I have been having problems, mainly on Compaqs, with W95SR2 & W98SE failing to startup after installation. The install goes error free but after removing diskette & restarting the system hangs with the W95 or W98,as the case may be, logo screen displayed and that's all she wrote. System locks up & must be restarted. Comes up in safe mode ok but hangs again when restarting Windows> Any ideas anyone? I'm not too proud to try anything as long as it's not illegal, immoral or fattening. Thanks in advance.

Boot with the startup floppy and get to the A:\> prompt. Once there
type fdisk /mbr. Do this several times to insure that it did its thing.
This command will clean out the mbr fully.
Now type format c:/s .
Next ,
Fdisk and format , your hard drive . Do not reboot your system but run fdisk /mbr .
Then reboot your system .

Many thanks to all. Problem solved. Replaced hard drive. Don't ask me why but replacing hard drive corrected problem. Trouble followed hard drive to another system. Thanks again.
