Have you confirmed the USB "dongle" is working in another machine?

What make and model USB Adapter is this? Do any lights indicate that the USB is working? Does it come good if you change your location? Have you tried a different USB slot?

Yes it is working on another machine and it is on my laptop because when I unplug the wirless connection it disapears from my device list. The USB adapter is a realtek rtl8187. thanks guys appreciate the input

Here is an example of how other software can cause problems with your equipment.

Realtek RTL8187 Wireless Network Adapter on ASUS P5K-E/wifi motherboard not working since upgrading to Windows 7

See if something similar is occurring by trying a clean boot.

I see you have reinstalled your USB but have you also tried RealTek for any later drivers?
