One of my devices doesn't work with chrome anymore ?? Uninstall reinstall and so on, didn't help at all..When starting chrome it would stall and I would have to do a cold restart..However it works with IE ..

any suggestions ??

What is the device that doesn't work?

Uninstall it again, reboot, and then delete the program folder (and any shortcuts left behind) before reinstalling.

If that doesn't help, check for additional suggestions here:

Particularly, you should try to login under a new user profile in Windows and see if you can get Chrome to work under that login. If you can, then you have a corrupt profile. If you can't and the other suggestions there don't help, then you may have an infection or 3rd-party app causing the crash.

I'd do a memory test especially if any other freaky things are going on. Memory can prevent programs from launching but often with a strange error.

I am seeing some strange interactions between Win 7 and Firefox since I installed the latest security patches last weekend. I can't put my finger on what's going on yet. Firefox is slower and sometimes just goes "out to lunch", losing connection with the ISP or destination website for no apparent reason. Either tonight or tomorrow night, I am going to use a dial-up connection so that I can take a look at network traffic in close to real-time. Your ideas welcome.

ADDED NOTE: I did not install any IE patches, and haven't installed any IE patches for many months.

Hey John, what are you doing on Windows 7? I thought you were in love with Windows 10.

I've not noticed any slowness of FF on my Win7 box. That's what I'm using right now. I did, however, make certain that my FF is up to date (ver. 45.0).

Thanks so much for the suggestions, however I think that machine is in bad shape, after restarting now it will prompt the "repair startup commmand" and I can't start W7 normally, it will then come up with the windows default screen and nothing happens (no Icons, just the blue sky screen) Is this still fixable ?? It doesn't look like a hard disk problem ?? thanks again for the great solutions..

Are you sure it's not the hard drive? I would run a test to be sure (some BIOS utilities have this test embedded, but there are 3rd-party tools you can download).

If the hard drive checks out, then likely the OS is infected or crapping out for some other reason. You can always try to repair it of course, but it may just be easier (and more efficient in the long run) to backup personal data and reload fresh.

Personally I use piriform CCLEANER (the free version). It is a great application to clean up my registry, get rid of junk files. I use it once a month and my machine never has any problems. I also use the REVO uninstaller. It works great and does a deep scan to remove all registry entries, folders, and files that are left over after you uninstall the application. Even those pesky little registry entries that stop you from reloading a trial version of an application. I don't do that, but it certainly works. One other thing is that I apply all available patches from Microsoft. I install all the required/Important and research the optional to see if I want to install them.
