W3984 Could not connect to ASDB protection agent on server

I have read the thread478-1487288 and have copied the folder suggested in the thread from the backup server to a temp folder on the remote server. When I try to run the SQLAgentRmtInst.exe, I get an error.
"Setup has detected that there are versions of CA ARCserve installed on the target server that cannot coexist with the current version of the CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Microsoft SQL server. Setup cannot install the CA ARCserve Backup Agent for Microsoft SQL server to ptotect the CA ARCserve Backup database. You must run setup on the database server to upgrade all CA ARCserve Backup products. The folder is at v12, and so is all the CA ARCserve products on the remote, so I am not sure what to do. Can you please advise me
