WTF? ArcServe2000 Advanced on a Dell 136T. Media option for First Media is set to "Append to Media."

Media option for Additional Media is set to "Overwrite Same Media Name, Or Blank Media First, then Any Media."

Apparently, ArcServe was waiting for someone to feed it a tape -- hello! It is a *library!* Isn't this thing supposed to grab the next usable tape?

I can't find even one mention in CA's database about this. What gives? Any tips?

I have started getting this error also, just after replacing our internal tape drive. I haven't yet figured out what to do to solve it.

Amy

Please, PLEASE help with this! Doesn't *anyone* have a solution for this!? It started with the fix to allow custom-scheduled jobs to APPEND to tapes instead of using a fresh one for each job!

This behavior is bloody unacceptable in a product as expensive as this! And if it is not in the database, I am willing to wager CA support has NO clue on this.

Someone please help! If I remove the append fix, my tape consumption will again skyrocket.

Hi
The reason Arcserve waiting for somebody to feed the tape is because you are firing the job to tape and this is wrong, you need to fire the job to group which is having
enough tapes then ARCserve won’t wait for somebody to feed it with tape it will span to next tape automatically.

Hope this clear

Uh, Mohamdr, I am firing the job against the group. It is a GFS job, just like I've been running for a year.

I'll run a little experiment today -- grab the oldest tapes in the pool, wipe 'em clean, and see what happens.

Nice try, tho.. any other takers?

Fixed! Okay, CA, and CA users, write this one down, since obviously CA doesn't even know about this issue.

If you apply that patch (the one for can't append to tape on custom scheduled job) it may break your system, you'll get the errors mentioned in the original post, and you will not be able to span additional tapes automagically.

Fix: Find some old tapes in the affected library, and erase 'em. The system will use 'em after that.

Apparently, when you add that fix, it messess up the tape pools. Erasing some tapes allows the system to use them again.
