W3404 Error

I'm trying to backup a SQL 2000 database across the network, using Arcserve 2000.

The job keeps failing with the following error.

W3404 Unable to open file. (FILE=\\xxxxxx, EC=SHARING VIOLATION)

Can anyone shed a bit more light on possible causes for this ?

You are trying to backup SQL without the SQL agent whilst it is online - good luck !

If you want to protect SQL then either use the SQL DBagent, or stop SQL before attempting to back it up and do an offline flat-file backup.
